About The Position

The Corrosion Technician III position is responsible for inspecting and maintaining cathodic protection systems and equipment used for corrosion control. This role ensures compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures while utilizing various scientific principles to mitigate corrosion damage. The technician will lead efforts in troubleshooting, system design, and compliance surveys, while also providing guidance to lower-level technicians.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a technical/trade school with a math, electrical, or science-based curriculum, or a high school diploma with equivalent experience.
  • NACE CP2 Certification (Cathodic Protection Technician).
  • NACE Corrosion Technologist Certification or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • 6 years of pipeline cathodic protection/corrosion control experience.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and understand codes, standards, and procedures.
  • Intermediate proficiency in basic electrical principles and Ohm's Law.
  • Intermediate proficiency in mathematics (Algebra & Geometry).
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Data analysis skills.
  • Proficiency in Pipeline Compliance System (PCS) and Field Data Logger (Allegro, MESA 3 Tablet, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Geographic Information System (GIS).

Nice To Haves

  • NACE CP3 (Cathodic Protection Technologist).
  • NACE Sr. Corrosion Technologist Certification.
  • NACE CIP 1 or NACE PCS 1 certification.
  • 10 years of pipeline cathodic protection/corrosion control experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct compliance surveys and inspections in accordance with codes and standards.
  • Perform timely troubleshooting of cathodic protection systems.
  • Create remediation work orders for necessary repairs and installations.
  • Monitor and mitigate Alternating Current (AC) effects on cathodic protection systems.
  • Coordinate with departments to ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to lower-level corrosion technicians.
  • Design advanced cathodic protection systems.
  • Maintain and update corrosion control mapping systems (GIS).
  • Troubleshoot and maintain rectifiers effectively.
  • Calibrate half-cells according to established procedures.
  • Conduct atmospheric inspections of exposed pipe spans.
  • Monitor corrosion control records for compliance in designated databases.
  • Perform and analyze indirect surveys (CIS, DCVG, ACVG, ACCA, etc.).
  • Oversee corrosion contractors and provide scheduling direction.
  • Evaluate lower-level corrosion technicians' qualifications.
  • Generate necessary reports from database systems.
  • Analyze survey data for compliance and effectiveness.
  • Support engineering and construction projects with corrosion control needs.
  • Enter new facilities and compliance data into the system of record promptly.
  • Participate in regulatory audits to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Maintain a safe work environment.
