About The Position

Precise Systems is seeking a full-time Corrosion Scientist/Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team focused on addressing corrosion, marine fouling, and performance testing of Naval hardware. The role involves conducting research, development, and testing in a collaborative environment, with responsibilities that include materials selection, corrosion prevention studies, and failure analysis. The position is based in Key West, FL, with occasional travel to Washington, DC, and requires hands-on work in various settings including office, laboratory, and field environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Corrosion Science, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • 5 years' experience with the duties described above.
  • Strong understanding of electrochemistry and corrosion mechanisms.
  • Proficiency in corrosion testing and evaluation methods.
  • Proficiency in Materials Science involving Metallics and/or Polymers.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Corrosion Science, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with corrosion modeling software (e.g., COMSOL, Abaqus) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, LabVIEW a plus.
  • Internship or project experience related to corrosion engineering.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., NACE, ASTM).
  • Certification in corrosion engineering (e.g., NACE CP, CIP).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate as a member of the technical team performing research, development, and testing in a research facility focused on addressing problems in corrosion, marine fouling, and performance testing of Naval hardware.
  • Conduct materials selection and corrosion prevention studies for various projects.
  • Implement and oversee corrosion control plans, including cathodic protection and coatings.
  • Perform failure analysis and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project goals are met.
  • Perform literature studies and author original research.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation for government, prime contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Stay updated with industry best practices and emerging technologies in corrosion engineering.
  • Establish data acquisition systems.
  • Perform hands-on work requiring testing, building test setups, and lifting/climbing in support of investigating corrosion issues on naval vessels.
