The Corrosion Control System Engineer serves as the subject matter expert in corrosion control, focusing on cathodic protection, protective coatings, materials selection, and condition assessments. This role involves analyzing environmental corrosivity, performing field tests, developing corrosion control alternatives, and designing systems to mitigate corrosion risks. The engineer will work independently to maintain a center-wide corrosion control plan supporting all Launch and Mission-related activities and assets.

  • Create control plans and frameworks for mitigations for assets and critical hardware.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for clients regarding corrosion risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Provide Materials Engineering consulting to engineers, management, and customers.
  • Consult on materials selection, corrosion monitoring, and repair strategies.
  • Develop and review technical specifications related to materials and corrosion.
  • Influence designs and maintenance plans to ensure proper materials and coatings are implemented.
  • Conduct daily hands-on activities such as troubleshooting, inspections, and testing.
  • Lead ECDA assessments for metallic structures and assets.
  • Work closely with field teams to ensure safe and effective ECDA assessments and designs.
  • Develop corrosion management strategies based on ECDA results and industry best practices.
  • Analyze assessment data to evaluate asset integrity and identify corrosion risks.
  • Design cathodic protection systems for metallic structures and assets.
  • Revise and add new asset information in Maximo database for assigned equipment.
  • Develop and maintain job plans and PMs for assigned equipment according to industry standards.
  • Conduct site visits to investigate system problems and propose solutions.
  • Support shop technicians in troubleshooting issues related to assigned equipment.
  • Prepare Technical Anomaly reports documenting problems and resolutions for assigned equipment.
  • Develop and present mission-related presentations to NASA and/or EGS customers.
  • Perform readiness assessments of assigned equipment and systems.
  • Coordinate with various stakeholders to define system specifications and requirements.
  • Support development of technical proposals and task order requirements.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Materials, Corrosion, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field with an emphasis on corrosion.
  • 2+ years of job-related experience or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of experience in corrosion control, mitigation, or research.
  • Knowledge of protective coatings and linings specification, inspection, and evaluation.
  • Experience in condition assessment of facilities affected by corrosion.
  • Familiarity with industry standard computer software (e.g., CADD, AutoCAD, MicroStation).
  • Practical work experience in corrosion control coatings, inhibitors, or electrochemistry.
  • NACE Certified Corrosion Specialist preferred.
  • NACE Certified Cathodic Protection Specialist or Registered Professional Corrosion Engineer preferred.
  • Ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
