About The Position

The Corrections Sergeant at Dillwyn Correctional Center is responsible for contributing to the public safety mission by providing first line supervision to Corrections Officers and Corrections Officer Trainees in an institutional setting. This position supervises and monitors staff on assigned shifts to ensure a safe and secure environment. The Sergeant communicates with management, staff, visitors, inmates, and the public, leads and counsels staff, completes required training, and maintains a safe and productive workforce.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Driver's License.
• Current Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Certification.
• Working knowledge of correctional policies, procedures, and practices.
• Ability to organize, plan, schedule, and supervise the work of others.
• Ability to read and comprehend workplace policies and procedures.
• Ability to prepare workplace reports and documentation.
• Ability to follow and give oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

Nice To Haves

• Previous supervisory experience.
• Demonstrated ability to produce written reports using a computer.
• Equivalent training or experience in a related field.
• Fluency in Spanish.
