Corrections Recreation Specialist 2, Limited Duration ( Lakeview) Warner Creek Correctional Facility Oregon Department of Corrections This position is a limited duration anticipated to last 12 months, though, may be extended or decreased due to business need. Internal candidates may be considered as a job rotation with their current manager's approval. About the Job – Your Role The Oregon Department of Corrections is seeking motivated individuals for a Limited Duration as a Corrections Recreational Specialist 2 at The Warner Creek Correctional Facility with a start date on or after MAY 10th 2026. In this role, you will design, coordinate, and implement a variety of structured recreational and therapeutic leisure programs for adults in custody within a secure facility. These programs are more than just activities—they are purposeful, goal-oriented interventions that support rehabilitation and personal growth. As a Corrections Recreational Specialist 2, you will help participants develop physical skills, build socially appropriate behaviors, and form positive affiliations. Recreational programming serves as a critical tool in assessing readiness for reentry, supporting individuals as they prepare to transition back into the community. This limited duration opportunity is ideal for those looking to gain hands-on experience in correctional rehabilitation, make a meaningful impact, and explore a career path within the Oregon Department of Corrections. This position is represented by Association of Oregon Corrections Employees, (AOCE). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience assessing, developing, coordinating, and implementing recreational programs and leisure time activities; OR A bachelor's degree in Recreational Management, Physical Education or a related field.
  • Skill in directing and instructing participants in leisure activities.
  • Skill in organizing and planning sporting or recreational activities.
  • Skill in scheduling events to avoid conflicts.
  • Skill in developing interpersonal working relationships with others.
  • The successful candidate for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
  • Within three days of hire, applicants will be required to complete an I-9 and confirm authorization to work in the United States.
