About The Position

The Corrections Processing Specialist plays a critical role in the secure and accurate intake and release of individuals at the Youth Justice and Education Center. This position is responsible for conducting initial assessments of newly booked individuals, including evaluating physical and mental capabilities, verifying legal documentation, and determining appropriate housing placement. The specialist ensures compliance with PREA standards by conducting risk screenings and making informed housing decisions to protect vulnerable populations. Additionally, the specialist facilitates the lawful release of individuals authorized by the courts, maintaining the integrity of legal and operational procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or possess a GED.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in corrections, law enforcement, intake processing, or related field.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

  • College coursework in criminal justice, psychology, or social services preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collects and enters data, such as education history, criminal background, habits, and employment history (if applicable), and the version of the crime committed. Ensures accuracy and completeness of data entered.
  • Conducts intake interviews and assessments of individuals booked into the facility.
  • Administers PREA risk screening tools to identify individuals at risk of sexual victimization or predatory behavior.
  • Evaluates physical and mental condition to identify medical needs, behavioral risks, or special housing requirements.
  • Reviews legal documentation, warrants, and court orders to verify booking and release eligibility.
  • Assigns appropriate housing based on classification criteria, risk factors, and institutional guidelines and PREA standards.
  • Maintains accurate intake and release records in the facility’s management system.
  • Coordinates with medical, mental health, and custody staff to ensure proper placement and care.
  • Facilitates the timely and lawful release of individuals authorized by the courts.
  • Communicates with external agencies, legal representatives, and court personnel as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with all intake and release protocols, including identity verification and documentation audits.
  • Responds to inquiries and resolve discrepancies related to booking or release procedures.
  • Possesses familiarity with legal documentation and court orders.
