About The Position

The Corrections Officer I position involves preparing for and attending Basic Corrections Officer Training. If employed at the facility before attendance, the officer will perform essential duties under close supervision. The role includes overseeing the security of inmates, conducting counts and inspections, monitoring inmate movement, and ensuring the cleanliness and order of the facility.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
• Must be 21 years of age.
• Preference for applicants with previous law enforcement experience, military service, security experience, or experience in supervising people in out-of-office environments.
• Must be eligible for and able to pass the State of Georgia Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Entrance Exam.

Responsibilities

• Oversees security of inmates inside and outside of corrections facility.
• Conducts inmate counts, visual inspections, and searches of inmates and their property.
• Monitors inmate movement and dorm activity.
• Monitors alarms, cameras, and other security equipment of the facility.
• Conducts security checks throughout the building, storage areas, fence line, and perimeter.
• Transports inmates to job sites and logs their movements.
• Supervises inmates during showers, haircuts, meal times, and recreation activities.
• Issues medication to inmates and ensures cleanliness of equipment and facility.
• Supervises inmate visitation and verifies identification of visitors.
• Controls inmate behavior and investigates suspicious activities.
• Prepares performance reports on inmates.
• Maintains knowledge of emergency operations procedures.
• Operates building equipment and locks/unlocks doors.
• Sorts and distributes mail and store purchases.
• Provides escorts for vendors and delivery persons.
