About The Position

The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice is looking to hire a highly organized and detail-oriented Licensed Registered Nurse, Corrections Nurse I. This position will be responsible for performing direct nursing care to individuals in a congregate care setting. The successful candidate shall possess a valid Illinois License and good oral and written communication skills, be a self-starter, and be able to carry out nursing assignments pursuant to the direction of medical personnel in a correctional setting.

Requirements

  • Requires graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing or a bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Requires completion of the Corrections Nurse Trainee program, OR, one (1) year of nursing experience (within the last five (5) years) in an acute care setting; preferred experience includes emergency room care, medical/surgical nursing, and/or ambulatory care.
  • Requires licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Illinois.
  • Requires the ability to pass an IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • Requires current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification

  • Prefers at least one (1) year of nursing experience in a congregate care setting.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working in and/or beside mental health.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working in an Urgent Care and/or related setting.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working with a juvenile population.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working on an interdisciplinary team.
  • Prefers the ability to multitask.
  • Prefers strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care and primary nursing care services.
  • Reviews and maintains records.
  • Maintains security of medications, medical equipment, and supplies in accordance with facility policies.
  • Monitors and maintains compliance of safety and sanitation in patient treatment and examination rooms.
  • Reviews medical records and completes health status forms on individuals in custody for transfers to ensure continuation of care.
  • Participates in the Quality Assurance Programs through concurrent monitoring of staff compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
