About The Position

This position will be filled by promotion of a permanent classified employee of LA DPS&C - Corrections Services (Adult DOC). The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted. This position has a Special Entrance Rate of $23.03 per hour, with additional Premium Pay based on years of service with DOC, ranging from $1.00 to $2.00 an hour for each regular hour worked.

Requirements

• Two years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security.
• Possession of a high school diploma or GED, or one year of experience in any field, or six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.
• Must have taken and passed the Corrections Lieutenant test (January 2013 or later) prior to the close of this announcement.
• Possession of a current driver's license.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Perform supervisory security work in a correctional institution by reviewing operations and adherence to standards and procedures.
• Conduct on-the-job training for staff.
• Serve as the ranking security officer in a specialized treatment unit.
• Organize and conduct inspections and searches of inmates and their living and work areas.
• Review reports of irregularities and disturbances submitted by subordinates and determine a course of action.
• Prepare reports for supervisory review.
• Serve as an instructor at the Corrections Training Academy.
• Train, instruct, and command IMPACT inmates in basic military movements and activities.
• Conduct hygiene inspections of inmates several times daily to ensure compliance with regulations.
• Investigate accidents and work-related injuries to determine causes and circumstances and recommend remedial action.
