About The Position

This position requires a self-motivated, detail-oriented individual. The position is responsible for the maintenance of the lawns and drives at Big Muddy River Correctional Center. The position would be an excellent fit for someone who enjoys working outdoors and individually. If you have a working knowledge in grounds Maintenance and equipment, you are an excellent candidate. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
  • Requires two (2) years of experience in grounds maintenance and gardening.
  • Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six (6) months of employment.
  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires the physical ability to perform the duties of this position.
  • Being on-call is a condition of employment that will be required.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors individuals in custody in the maintenance of lawns and drives at the Big Muddy River Correctional Center, consisting of trees, shrubbery and flower planting, watering, fertilizing, mowing grass, hedge trimming, tree pruning and removal, etc.
  • Monitors the maintenance of walks, ditches or water sheds, and roadways around the institution.
  • Directs the use of power equipment such as chain saws, power mowers, tractors, and graders in the maintenance of institution and grounds and makes minor repairs to equipment.
  • Reports infractions of rules by individuals in custody.
  • Coordinates the use of pesticides, herbicides, and other toxics used in the maintenance of institutional grounds.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
