About The Position

The Corrections Deputy is responsible for monitoring, supervising, and maintaining custody of inmates in the Snohomish County Jail, the residential work release facility, and those placed into non-custody community corrections programs. This role involves various duties including booking inmates, supervising their activities, conducting security checks, and ensuring compliance with jail rules and procedures.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of application.
  • Must be a United States citizen, lawful permanent resident, or DACA recipient.
  • Must pass job-related tests.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal history background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, pre-employment medical exam, and drug screening.
  • Must have a valid Washington State Driver's License.
  • Ability to acquire First Aid and CPR Certificates is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a full-time, paid corrections officer/deputy in a local, county, or state corrections facility.
  • Successful completion of a State Basic Corrections Officer Academy.

Responsibilities

  • Books inmates into the jail, work release, or community corrections programs; conducts interviews to determine medical and special needs.
  • Supervises the activities of inmates within the jail housing areas and their movement from one area to another.
  • Checks for outstanding warrants and criminal history using various criminal justice databases when assigned to community corrections.
  • Supervises the preparation of inmates for transportation to courts and other appointments.
  • Conducts regular security checks and searches of inmates and visitors.
  • Instructs inmates on jail rules and procedures and investigates suspected rule violations.
  • Maintains custody and control of inmates when confined to hospitals or other facilities.
  • Serves on various committees such as training, safety, and equal employment opportunity.
  • Provides direct assistance to work release inmates and program participants as needed.
