About The Position
The Department of Corrections (DOC), State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Mahanoy, is seeking a highly motivated Corrections Counselor 2. This position utilizes advanced professional experience in counseling and providing casework services to inmates. The role involves using compassion and communication skills to help rehabilitate inmates and prepare them for a future after incarceration. As a Corrections Counselor 2, you will provide counseling and casework services to inmates with behavioral and adjustment issues, using group or individual counseling methods. You will assist inmates with emotional problems and enable them to develop a sense of dignity and responsibility. Additionally, you will provide counseling to inmates in restricted housing units and special needs units, addressing disruptive or violent behavior. Effective communication is essential to foster positive relationships between the institution, interdisciplinary teams, and community agencies, as well as to facilitate behavioral change that promotes reintegration. You will also participate in parole planning and make recommendations regarding re-entry services and community placement.
