Works under direction and requires knowledge of detection in order to deploy to DRC institutions and other locations as directed Responsible for conducting surveillance, safety and security inspections to detect illicit contraband and tracking of persons to apprehend escapees Provides care to assigned canine as directed by administrator Responsible for commanding canine to conduct search for contraband and/or illicit substances or other items and collaborates with correction officers and other staff assigned to assist with illicit contraband detection and/or person searches Responsible for the inspecting and searches with assigned canine institution grounds, property parking lots, housing units, shops, recreation areas, dining areas or work area for contraband Ensures area is secured prior to deploying canine in an Maintains assigned residential based canine kennel for cleanliness and safety Ensures assigned state vehicles are properly maintained for drivability, cleanliness and safety Transports canine to routine and emergency veterinary care Transports food and other items for the canine Ensures the residence is properly maintained, safe and secure for the canine and all people occupying the residence Responsible for the canine transport for daily exercise Gathers information and writes reports on findings from canine alerts to supervisor Responsible for investigations conducted by Ohio State Highway Patrol or other law enforcement agencies as a result of contraband detection Responds to DRC institutions and facilities to assist with STG detection, enforcement and profiling operations
