About The Position

The position requires considerable knowledge of correctional workshop operating policies and procedures of the Ohio Penal Industries (OPI) shop. The individual will oversee the work of incarcerated individuals assigned to the OPI workshop and/or engaged in service delivery, ensuring security and custody of these individuals. Responsibilities include training incarcerated individuals in proper work methods, equipment operation, and safety practices, as well as enforcing institution rules and regulations. The role also involves maintaining control of supplies, equipment, and tools, assigning and reviewing work, ensuring quality control specifications of products, and preparing and maintaining records and reports of workshop activities. Additionally, the individual will input data into the manufacturing system, oversee equipment maintenance, escort and transport incarcerated individuals, and manage shipping, receiving, storage, and inventory of products and materials. The position requires the completion of daily and month-end inmate payroll, performance evaluations, and various reports, along with participation in in-service trainings and special projects.

Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes fractions, decimals & percentages
  • 18 months training or 18 months experience in providing work direction to employees or a work crew
  • 3 months training or 3 months experience in employee training & development
  • Successful completion of asbestos building inspection initial course, asbestos management planner initial course & asbestos abatement project supervisor initial course per EPA regulations for positions assigned to asbestos abatement program
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees work of incarcerated individuals assigned to the OPI workshop and/or engaged in service delivery
  • Provides security and custody of incarcerated individuals
  • Trains incarcerated individuals in proper work methods, equipment operation and/or safety practices in the assigned area
  • Enforces institution rules and regulations
  • Maintains control of supplies, equipment, and tools
  • Assigns and reviews work, schedules incarcerated individuals, monitors and evaluates work performed
  • Ensures quality control specifications of products
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports of workshop activities
  • Inputs data into manufacturing system as assigned, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
  • Oversees equipment maintenance and/or workshop cleaning
  • Escorts and/or transports incarcerated individuals
  • Oversees shipping, receiving, storage and/or inventory of products and materials
  • Prepares and submits reports
  • Completes daily and month-end inmate payroll, month-end Earned Credit report, inmate performance evaluations, and weekly inspection report
  • Performs other related duties and security functions
  • Attends in-service trainings
  • Works on special projects and committees
  • Assists with ACA files
  • May be utilized in any other OPI shop due to staff shortage and/or extenuating circumstances
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
