About The Position

This advertisement is for a Correctional Sergeant position located at Sierra Conservation Center in Jamestown, Tuolumne County. Please indicate the position number on your application: 099-201-9659-XXXUnder direction of the Correctional Lieutenant, the Correctional Sergeant supervises the work of Correctional Officers in the custody, discipline and welfare of incarcerated people. The Correctional Sergeant must be able to work in conditions that require the following essential functions. Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s). Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires that each full-time employee receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 30, 2027. About this location -- Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) is located in the foothills near Jamestown, California, in the heart of the Mother Lode Gold Country.It is adjacent to the Stanislaus National Forest, offering pine trees, mountain streams, and an abundance of recreational activities (fishing, swimming, camping, skiing, golfing, etc.).The prison is approximately 70 miles from Yosemite National Park. The primary mission of SCC is to provide housing, programs and services for minimum and medium custody incarcerated individuals, to aid in their rehabilitation. SCC is responsible for the training and placement of male incarcerated individuals in the Conservation Camp Program. SCC administers male camps located throughout California.

First Aid/Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation to effectively provide first responder/emergency medical care.The use and care of firearms for the safety of staff, Incarcerated Persons and the public. Computer usage (e.g., software programs, word processing) to maintain accurate records, communicate effectively, contribute to the department's needs, etc. The Use of Force policy and reporting requirements to ensure staff fulfill the operational requirements of the department and comply with Federal and State laws, court mandates, regulations, etc. Working Effectively with Female Offenders (WEFO) and gender identification to ensure staff fulfill the operational requirements of the department and comply with Federal and State laws, court mandates, regulations, etc. Due process to comply with Federal and State laws, court mandates, regulations, etc. Memorandum of Understanding to comply with the agreement between CDCR and bargaining units. Alarm response and emergency procedures to effectively supervise staff during an incident.
  • Skill to: Lead and mentor subordinate staff to accomplish institutional missions. Effectively communicate methods for accomplishing institutional missions to staff, Incarcerated Persons and the public. Quickly and effectively engage in conflict resolution in accordance with policies and procedures. Effectively manage assignments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to: Plan, assign, and direct the work of others to effectively supervise an area of responsibility and ensure the safety of staff, Incarcerated Persons and the public. Control, direct and instruct Incarcerated Persons, individually and in groups, to maintain the orderly operation of the facility and ensure the safety of staff, Incarcerated Persons and the public. Interpret and enforce all rules and regulations with firmness, tact, and impartiality to ensure compliance. Promote acceptable attitudes and behavior of Incarcerated Persons or Supervised Persons and rate their conduct and productivity accurately and impartially to assist with the rehabilitation process. Think and act quickly in emergencies in order to determine and implement effective and appropriate courses of action. Make arithmetic computations in order to account for Incarcerated Persons and manage resources. Analyze situations accurately to determine and implement effective and appropriate courses of action. Interpret and apply rules and instructions to ensure program compliance. Effectively enforce the department's Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) objectives in order to create and maintain a fair and equitable work environment free of harassment and discrimination. Use computers and software programs to input, retrieve and update database information and monitor, track and supervise staff/ Incarcerated Persons assignments.
