About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Salary Range: $39,671 - $69,426 Reporting to a Correctional Lieutenant III and/or Correctional Housing Unit Manager III this position is responsible for assisting the Correctional Lieutenant and/or in the supervision of Correctional Officers at a medium and close custody institution.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Facility Operations.
  • Knowledge of Prisons’ Policy and Procedures.
  • MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience as a Correctional Officer Or Two years of experience as a Correctional Officer III Or An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising Correctional Officer III’s in a close-custody institution with restrictive and controlled housing.
  • Assigning lower-level custody staff to a particular area or post, arranging work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing operational procedures and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy.
  • Overseeing officer activities/performance and ensuring that the custody, security, and welfare of offenders are maintained.
