About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Salary Range: $37,782 - $66,120 Reporting to the Correctional Lieutenant II, this position provides supervision of subordinate officers and their assigned tasks and activities regarding the custody and welfare of male offenders in a Medium custody state correctional facility.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of facility operations
  • Knowledge of Prisons’ policy and procedures
  • MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years and six months of experience as a Correctional Officer Or Two years of experience as Correctional Officer II Or An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assigning lower-level custody staff to a particular area or post.
  • Overseeing officer activities and performance and ensuring that the custody, security, and welfare of offenders is maintained.
  • Arranging work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing operational procedures, and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy. May serve as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC).
  • Supervising offenders in restrictive housing.
  • Conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments, and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
  • Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
  • Completing Incident Reports, Use of Force, Disciplinaries, and Grievances.
