About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Salary Range: $37,782 - $66,120 This posting is for the following position numbers...60062086, 60062073, 60062079 and 60062072. (four different position numbers that we are hiring for) This position is located at Neuse Correctional Institution in Goldsboro, North Carolina. This is a medium custody male facility. This position will report to the Correctional Lieutenant II on the assigned shift rotation. This is a supervisory position. This position provides daily supervision to Correctional Officers on the assigned shift rotation.

Requirements

  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Officer, or two years of experience as Correctional Officer II; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.

Responsibilities

  • Position is responsible for ensuring that DPS policy and procedures are followed.
  • Position is responsible for ensuring that SOP's and written memorandums are followed.
  • This position in conjunction with the OIC participates/conducts shift line-up, makes shift assignments and inspects all assigned custody personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
  • Position completes, reviews, and maintains time sheets, duty rosters, leave schedules, evaluation and other administrative duty forms.
  • Position is accountable for ensuring that all equipment is operational and ready when needed.
  • Position is responsible for maintaining effective communication both oral and written with staff and inmates.
  • Shift assignments for this position is based on the needs of the institution.
  • Position is required to work 12.25 hour shifts and will be required to work days, nights, weekends, holidays as scheduled on the shift assignment.
