About The Position
This position is located at Avery Mitchell Correctional Institution in Avery County, NC. Work in this class involves first-line supervision to Correctional Officer II's in medium-custody facilities or institutions, increasing the custody and security coverage. Positions assign lower-level custody staff to a particular area or post. Employees oversee officer activities and performance and ensure that the custody, security and welfare of inmates is maintained. Employees arrange work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implement operational procedures and ensure rules and regulations are followed according to policy. Positions may serve as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC). Positions report directly to a Correctional Lieutenant II and/or the Correctional Assistant Superintendent. At this level, employees may supervise inmates in restrictive housing. This is an INTERNAL POSTING open ONLY for current employees of the NC Department of Adult Correction. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job.
