About The Position
The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Reporting to the Associate Warden, the Correctional Sergeant I’s job responsibilities include the following: This position provides supervision for subordinate staff. Conduct shift line-up, create shift assignments, and inspect all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post. Complete, review and maintain time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations and administrative forms. Account for persons and funds and ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready. Conduct investigations. Develop prisons operational, emergency plans and post orders. Work is performed according to standard departmental procedures and supplemental instructions are received through established chain of command. Supervise offender counts and the maintenance of all records so that offenders will be always accounted for; supervise periodic search of offender quarters for contraband. North Piedmont CRV is a Confinement in Response to Violation correctional facility for females, housing 136 offenders, with 56 employees. Probation/parole violators are housed for up to a 90-day sentence.
Requirements
- High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience as a correctional officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
