The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for a full-time permanent position as a Correctional Records Technician (CRT) at the Mission Creek Corrections Center for Women (MCCCW) located in Belfair, WA. The DOC plays a crucial role in the criminal justice system, enhancing public safety and administering criminal sanctions and programs in accordance with the law. The Records Division's mission is to accurately interpret and apply legal document information for the DOC, the public, and incarcerated individuals, ensuring trust in the established jurisdiction. As a custodian of offender records, the Correctional Records Technician (CRT1) is responsible for entering, verifying, and ensuring that offender sentence structure information complies with appropriate laws and agency policies. This role involves processing, verifying, and maintaining offender sentence structure and criminal history record information provided by criminal justice agencies within the offender management database system, all aimed at improving public safety. The CRT1 will review and verify offender sentence structure and criminal history information, auditing judgments, sentences, and other court documents to ensure accuracy in sentencing offenders per applicable RCWs and legislative changes. The technician will ensure that the contents of offender records are legal, accurate, and maintained securely. Responsibilities include verifying electronic database information against source documents, interpreting court decisions, calculating good time jail credits, maintaining electronic and physical files, and providing effective communication and timely request processing. The position also requires the technician to respond to requests for public disclosure in compliance with federal and state laws, provide direct support to the Correctional Records Supervisor, and serve as a certified notary for the facility. The role may involve testifying in court as an expert witness regarding the validity of offender records and identity, as well as assisting other records units as needed.
