About The Position

This position reports to the Correctional Director I. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance and supervision of significant correctional programs at a medium custody correctional facility. The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.

Requirements

• Documented knowledge of internal and/or external services available to offenders.
• Documented 12 months (1 year) of correctional program experience.
• Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.
• Bachelor's degree in a Human Services or Criminal Justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in corrections or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate inmate services, activities, and support security operations through regular communication with assigned inmates.
• Incorporate correctional counseling techniques into the management of assigned caseloads.
• Communicate effectively in verbal and written form with staff, inmates, and the general public.
• Review, analyze, and evaluate various documents and behavioral data gathered from interviews, written documentation, and personal observation.
• Perform crisis intervention and routine counseling to include suicide prevention.
