About The Position

The Correctional Program Specialist position is responsible for overseeing the legality and duration of confinement for individuals committed to the custody of the Attorney General. This role ensures the safety and security of the institution while preparing individuals for successful reentry into the community. The specialist will manage various correctional functions, maintain liaison with law enforcement agencies, and uphold the institution's security protocols.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree for GL-09; PhD or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education for GS-11.
• At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of policies and statutes governing jail credit and release of inmates.
• Experience in correctional program management and oversight.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the legality and duration of confinement of individuals in custody.
• Oversee intake and release systems, including physical processing of inmates.
• Prevent the introduction of contraband and safeguard inmate personal property.
• Maintain judgment and commitment records, including archiving and reviewing sentence computations.
• Coordinate prisoner transfers and oversee data systems related to inmate management.
• Maintain liaison with U.S. District Courts, local law enforcement, and other agencies.
