About The Position

The incumbent in this position is responsible for directing and supervising correctional probation officers and senior officers. This position shall monitor the daily activities of correctional probation officers and senior officers to ensure investigative and supervision services are provided in accordance with Florida statutes, department of corrections rules, and the probation and parole manual of procedures. The incumbent in this position may also supervise the day-to-day operation of a small office.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • All employees in the correctional probation officer classes shall be required to possess a valid driver’s license as a condition of employment in accordance with 33-208.402, Florida Administrative Code and Section 322.03(3) Florida Statutes.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and approves all correspondence and investigations including pre-sentence, post-sentence, other state, pre-parole, special, and other investigations for the courts, parole commission, department of corrections and other states for quality, accuracy and content per departmental policy and procedure. Also, reviews and approves all violation reports, affidavits, and warrant requests for offenders for quality, accuracy and content per departmental policy and procedure. Reviews and approves entries into the court ordered payment system and management information system and requests for information from NCIC/FCIC and DHSMV.
  • Distributes and reviews workloads of correctional probation officers and senior officers to ensure consistent and uniform enforcement of supervision order. Assigns new and transfer cases for supervision and investigation. Monitors assignments for equitable distribution. Reviews officer compliance with field supervision standards in accordance with supervision protocol. Conducts initial, quarterly, semi-annual, annual, special and pre-termination case reviews on individual cases, as required. Follows up as needed. Reviews and approves all recommendations for early termination of supervision. Accompanies correctional probation officers and senior officers in the field on a regular basis to monitor officer compliance with field safety procedures and supervision duties.
  • Supervises the implementation of policies and procedures established by the department and ensures the satisfactory delivery of services.
  • Evaluates employee performance and develops performance improvement plans as necessary. Counsels, motivates, and guides staff in the daily performance of their duties. Ensures staff compliance with mandated training requirements. Reviews and approves requests for leave, ensuring adequate office and workload coverage. Interviews applicants for employment and conducts background investigations on prospective employees.
  • Maintains liaison with the judiciary, prosecutors, public defenders, law enforcement, treatment providers, non-profit service agencies, governmental agencies, other facilities, offices and bureaus of the department and other criminal justice representatives. Exhibits appropriate demeanor and knowledge as a representative of the Department of Corrections. Demonstrates sensitivity to public and victim needs, concerns and complaints, and takes appropriate, prompt action as required.
  • Manages and supervises offenders as required in an officer’s absence. Conducts investigations as required when workload demands, or special circumstances deem it necessary.
  • Handles administrative duties as assigned. Assists in the absence of the Regional Director and Assistant Regional Director. Serves on teams or committees and task forces to study issues, solve problems, refine existing practices, develop new programs or procedures, or implement new policies. Attends and delivers training relating to the duties and responsibilities of the job and for career development.
  • The incumbent in this position is responsible for coordinating all community corrections training activities within the region of assignment. Responsible for the management of the regional Criminal Justice Standards and Training Trust Fund Budget. Assistance in the management and formulation of training policies and procedures. Responsible for implementing, coordinating, delivering, and evaluating training programs.
  • Performs planning, management coordination and administration of training programs within the assigned region. Conducts research, collects training data, and formulates reports as instructed. Coordinates with Central Office to evaluate training activities in accordance with Staff Development Guidelines. Ensures that all training activities are in accordance with laws, rules, policies, procedures, and guidance from management. Develops training curricula and lesson plans designed to meet circuit specific training needs within a regional area. Reports on all activities to the Community Corrections Regional Director as directed.
  • Updates and schedules training through the department’s Staff Training and Records System (E-Train). Maintains employee-training records and monitors compliance with annual in-service employee training requirements for certified, auxiliary and support staff using E-Train and ATMS II systems. Assists in preparing training documents necessary for budget requests and other reports or briefings. Serve on committees, special task forces, and projects as assigned.
