About The Position

Correctional Officers maintain and supervise offenders in State correctional facilities in a controlled humane environment. This position may be at a Maximum-Security Prison. Incumbents perform the full range of duties described in the series concept. This is the journey level class in this series. This position may be at a Maximum-Security Prison. Correctional Officers maintain and supervise offenders in State correctional facilities in a controlled humane environment. This position may be at a Maximum-Security Prison. Incumbents receive structured classroom and on-the-job training in performing most of the duties described in the series concept.

Responsibilities

• Control, direct, and monitor activity/movement of inmates.
• Direct and instruct inmate work crews and evaluate inmate work.
• Monitor and control inmates during transport to work assignments, classes, medical appointments, and court hearings using proper restraints and transport tactics.
• Intervene and control acts of negative behavior and violence to maintain security and safety of inmates, staff and the public.
• Conduct regular and unscheduled head counts of inmates to give accurate physical counts according to established procedures.
