Correctional Officers are key to the smooth running of our jail. They have an important role to play in supporting residents with their rehabilitation and creating a positive and safe environment. Vision: We enhance public safety and quality of life through the successful reintegration of residents in our care. What is the job like? Your main role will be monitoring and safeguarding the residents in a direct supervision housing unit. This will include everything from managing routines, supervising meals, conducting searches as well as evaluating resident behavior. You will need to instruct and direct the residents and ensure safety of your housing unit. At times, you will need to deal with the more challenging aspects of this career such as disruptive or violent behavior and will be working with a variety of individuals and sentence lengths. You will be required to write reports and utilize our software systems. Basic skills are required, but training will be provided. Applicants must be able to work any shift, work holidays and weekends as assigned. Applicants must be able to work mandatory overtime as assigned (rate of pay for overtime is time and a half). CANDIDATES MUST SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE APPROPRIATE TRAINING PROGRAM. SOME POSITIONS MAY REQUIRE QUALIFYING WITH A SERVICE WEAPON ON A REGULAR BASIS. POSITIONS REQUIRE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING COURSES, WHICH MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: JAILOR CERTIFICATION, AND DIRECT SUPERVISION PRINCIPLES. APPLICANTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT TO A THOROUGH BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION. APPLICANTS WILL ALSO BE REQUIRED TO PASS A PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG TESTING AND MEDICAL EXAMINATION AFTER PRELIMINARY OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT. NOTE: This Original application is open to qualified residents of the United States. Appointee must establish Wisconsin State residency within six (6) months of starting date. Candidates need to submit a full account of their training and experience (i.e., by submitting an up-to-date resume or by fully completing the application) during the application process and may also be asked to take additional written or performance tests as part of the selection process. Requirements
