About The Position

The Correctional Officer position with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) is an entry-level peace officer role focused on ensuring public safety and facilitating the successful reintegration of individuals in custody. Officers are responsible for maintaining a safe and humane environment while providing education, treatment, and rehabilitative programs to help individuals become drug-free, healthy, and employable members of society.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 20 years of age at the time of application and 21 years at the time of appointment to the Academy.
  • Graduation from a U.S. high school, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • Possession of an Associate's degree or higher from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  • No felony convictions and eligible to own/possess a firearm.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual skills are preferred.
  • Experience working with high school students.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety and security within the correctional facility.
  • Facilitate educational and rehabilitative programs for inmates.
  • Conduct regular inspections and monitoring of inmates.
  • Assist in the reintegration of inmates into society.
  • Enforce rules and regulations within the facility.
