About The Position

Correctional Officers maintain and supervise offenders in State correctional facilities in a controlled humane environment. This position may be at a Maximum-Security Prison. Incumbents receive structured classroom and on-the-job training in performing most of the duties described in the series concept. This is the trainee level in the series and incumbents progress to the next level in the series upon meeting minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance and the recommendation of the appointing authority.

Requirements

• Minimum qualification of 2 years of recent full-time or equivalent work history.
• Work history can include part-time work, military, or college experience after high school graduation.
• Completion of a POST physical fitness test.
• Undergo an extensive background investigation.
• Pass a drug test.
• Complete a medical physical examination.
• Pass a psychological examination.
• Participate in a Correctional Officer Structured Interview.
