About The Position

Requirements

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Ability to manage people and maintain a high moral standard.
• Emotional stability and ability to handle stressful situations.
• Pass a physical examination and drug/alcohol test upon hire and randomly thereafter.
• Willingness to complete the Basic Correctional Officers Training Program within one year of employment.
• No misdemeanor or convictions in the past year, excluding minor traffic violations.
• Must have never been convicted of a felony.

Nice To Haves

• Bi-lingual in Lakota Language preferred.
• Knowledge of the English language including spelling, grammar, and composition rules.

Responsibilities

• Booking inmates and entering information into jail management software.
• Conducting fingerprinting and photographing of inmates.
• Segregating inmates and performing pat searches.
• Conducting cell checks and suicide watches.
• Serving meals and dispensing medication to inmates.
• Storing inmate property and applying restraints when necessary.
• Assigning work assignments to inmates and monitoring their activities.
• Completing various logs and forms related to inmate management and facility operations.
• Ensuring laundry duties and facility cleaning are completed.
• Transporting and escorting inmates to hospitals or court as needed.
