About The Position

The Department of Human Resources is continuously recruiting for lateral transfers and will evaluate and rank eligible candidates upon receipt of an application. Individuals must be currently employed as full-time Correctional Officers in State or County Adult Correctional Facilities within California that operate under the provisions of the California Board of Corrections. The salary range for Correctional Officer I is $4,480.84-$5,510.87 per month, and for Correctional Officer II, it is $4,940.13-$6,075.73 per month. Under general supervision, the role involves supervising inmates and a variety of inmate activities in a detention facility, maintaining security, and monitoring inmate behavior, along with performing related work as required.

Requirements

  • Currently employed as a full-time Correctional Officer in State or County Adult Correctional Facilities in California.
  • Valid certificate of completion of the California Board of Corrections' Corrections Officer Basic Academy.
  • Completion of requirements for Penal Code Section 832 Arrest and Firearms courses.

Nice To Haves

  • Less than two (2) years of experience comparable to that of a Correctional Officer I with Madera County for placement on the Correctional Officer I Lateral Transfer List.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience comparable to that of a Correctional Officer I with Madera County for placement on the Correctional Officer II Lateral Transfer List.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises inmates and a variety of inmate activities in a detention facility.
  • Maintains security and monitors inmate behavior.
  • Receives, books, searches, photographs, and fingerprints inmates.
  • Supervises and monitors inmate conduct during booking and screening procedures.
  • Maintains security of inmates by taking periodic counts and by surveillance of activities.
  • Prepares and completes records, reports, and forms.
  • Identifies and monitors inmates with special needs including psychological and/or drug-related problems.
  • Provides basic medical assistance when necessary during medical emergencies.
  • Keeps inventory of clothing and other supply items; completes receipts; processes civil request forms.
  • Screens parole applications; discharges or transfers inmates; prepares inmates for release.
  • Conducts internal affairs investigations and participates in disciplinary hearings when assigned to Classification.
  • Conducts pre-employment investigations and coordinates training programs when assigned to Training.
  • Searches and restrains inmates to be transported and provides security during transport.
