About The Position

The Department of Corrections is recruiting for multiple Correctional Officer 1 positions. Correctional Officers earn up to 16 days of paid leave for the first two years of employment, increasing after two (2) years based on years of service, as well as also receiving 11 paid holidays annually. This recruitment is for an 84-hour work week, with a schedule of 'week on/week off' that alternates 'day/night shifts.' Moving and relocation incentives may be available to the selected candidates based on location and vacancy rates. Correctional Officer 1 positions perform work under the immediate supervision of experienced staff and supervisors to learn the duties expected and perform skills for the custody, security, care, and reformation of prisoners assigned to the department's custody. The incumbent participates in on-the-job and classroom training programs through the Department of Corrections Training Academy and Field Training Programs and performs assigned tasks at the entry level. During the first 12-14 months of employment, new Correctional Officers are provided structured field training within the prison and will attend a seven-week Correctional Officer Academy. After successfully completing the training and receiving the Alaska Police Standards Council (APSC) Correctional Officer Certificate, the incumbent will promote to the Correctional Officer 2 level.
