Under the supervision of a Captain, Adult Institution (CAI) of the incumbents assigned Unit, the Statewide Transportation Unit (STU) Correctional Lieutenant is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of their respective STU Hub. These responsibilities include but are not limited to supervising and coordinating the workload associated with the transport of incarcerated persons by STU staff via sedan, van and intrastate bus schedules. The duties and responsibilities of the STU Lieutenant include key functional areas: Administrative review, Operations and Security; Scheduling; Personnel Management; and Time Keeping. The STU Lieutenant is required to maintain a DMV class "B" Commercial Driver's License, a Medical Examiners Certificate (MCSA-5876), Airbrake Endorsements and Passenger Endorsements. This position requires quarterly qualifications of all firearms and annually requires training in non-lethal options and other mandated courses. The STU Lieutenant must be able to work professionally and independently with little to no supervision. In addition to the Department Operations Manual, the STU Lieutenant must operate in accordance with the STU Operations Manual and comply with all applicable Vehicle Code/DOT laws and regulations. The STU Lieutenant may interact with the public and other law enforcement agencies daily and is expected to always present themselves at the highest professional standard, on and off duty. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) Headquarters has implemented a new automated system to streamline the hiring process.
