About The Position

Work in this class involves assisting in planning, supervising, and coordinating activities in a minimumcustody facility. Employees supervise Correctional Sergeant I’s. Employees may serve as the Officer-InCharge (OIC) in the absence of the Correctional Captain. Employees assist in planning and supervising personnel actions, administrative affairs, officers’ work schedule and coordinating activities involving the discipline, security, and the welfare of the inmate population. Employee’s responsibilities are primarily custodial in nature serving as shift supervisor. Positions report to a Correctional Captain I or an Assistant Correctional Superintendent. Reporting to the Associate Warden of Custody and Operations, this position is responsible for assisting in planning, supervising, and coordinating activities in a minimum-custody female facility. This position’s responsibilities include the following: Supervise Correctional Sergeant I’s. May serve as the Officer-In-Charge (OIC). Assist in officers’ work schedule and coordinating activities involving the discipline, security, and the welfare of the offender population. Responsibilities are primarily custodial in nature serving as shift supervisor. Coordinate actions such as employee leave requests, monthly reports, offender problems, and other activities relative to a correctional facility. Conduct inspections of housing units and other buildings, grounds, and posts to ascertain that officers are alert, that discipline is being maintained, and that assignments are carried out properly. Review investigations regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints. Assist in assessing, evaluating, and implementing employee discipline. May serve on the offender classification committee. Prepare a variety of records and reports related to custody operations. Perform other related duties as required. Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

  • Documented report writing skills.
