About The Position

This position is located at Roanoke River Correctional Institution. It provides direct support and assumes responsibility for the overall management of the correctional housing unit.

Requirements

• Documented supervisory skills in a prison facility
• Knowledge of facility operations
• Knowledge of Prisons' policy and procedures
• Documented report writing skills
• Documented supportive counseling skills
• High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of correctional experience, two of which must have been at the supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Nice To Haves

• The Prisons Eastern Region prefers candidates with no less than 5 years of corrections work experience and 2 years at a supervisory level.

Responsibilities

• Responsibilities may include management of multiple locations usually a medium custody facility which is managed within the scope of the larger institution.
• Work in this class involves managing the total operation of an institutional housing unit within a correctional facility which may include controlled or restrictive housing.
• Employees supervise staff, determines & evaluates program designs necessary to meet the needs of the offender population, and coordinate the programs and services with program and custody staff.
• Employees are responsible for the programmatic and operational orientation of offenders which includes: education, mental health, administrative and disciplinary segregation, and work assignments.
• Reviews work of staff through incident and use of force reports, grievance investigations, classification actions, daily activity reports, and the case management system.
• Establishes daily and weekly work schedules of staff to ensure coverage.
• Employees may chair the Facility Classification Committee and have the final approving authority on unit classification and disciplinary committees.
• Employees supervise a Correctional Housing Unit Manager I and reports to an Associate Warden.
• Work is performed in accordance with departmental regulations and established procedures.
