About The Position

This position is located at Bertie Correctional Institution. It provides direct support for the Correctional Housing Unit Manager III and assumes responsibility for the overall management of the correctional housing unit in the absence of the Housing Unit Manager III.

Requirements

• Must meet the requirements for Criminal Justice Certification, including U.S. Citizenship
• High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of correctional experience, two of which must have been at the supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership
• Maintains attendance records
• Conducts investigations
• Oversees leave schedules
• Conducts performance appraisals
• Implements and monitors the unit case management system providing counseling and maintaining reports related to the offender progress through the institution
• Ensures staff are alert, properly trained, informed and prepared to perform job responsibilities under a variety of conditions
• Ensuring proper protocol is followed with regard to security and control of protective equipment such as OC pepper spray, handcuffs, and keys and radios and equipment is properly maintained and functioning properly and that staff are assigned the required safety equipment and are trained in its use
• Prepare operational reports, memorandum and documents regarding incidents such as Incident Reports, Accident Reports, Use of Force Reports, Disciplinary Reports and Shift Narratives
