About The Position

This position provides direct support for and reports to the Correctional Housing Unit Manager III (CHUM III) at a multi-custody male correctional facility and assumes responsibility for the overall management of the correctional housing unit in the absence of the CHUM III. On a daily basis, this position provides leadership, maintains attendance records, conducts investigations, oversees leave schedules, and conducts performance appraisals in addition to other administrative duties. Other job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Managing the operations of an institutional housing unit within a close-custody correctional institution, which may include controlled or restrictive housing, medical or mental health units. 2. Supervising staff on the housing unit. 3. Determining/evaluating program design necessary to meet the needs of the offender population and coordinating the programs and services with programs and custody staff. 4. Implementing programmatic/operational orientation of offender which includes education, mental health, administrative and disciplinary segregation and work assignments. 5. Ensuring proper protocol is followed with regard to security and control of protective equipment such as, OC pepper spray, handcuffs, keys, radios and other equipment is properly maintained and functioning properly and that staff are assigned the required safety equipment and are trained in its use. 6. Serving in a variety of institutional classification committees and chairing on the facility classification committee being the final approving authority on unit classification and disciplinary committee.

Requirements

  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND five years of correctional experience, two of which must have been at the supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

  • Documented report writing skills.
  • Documented knowledge of supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments
  • Documented knowledge of Prisons' Policy and Procedures and/or Facility Operations.
