About The Position

The Correctional Counselor position at the Oregon State Penitentiary involves working with adults in custody (AIC) to facilitate rehabilitation and motivate positive change. The role includes conducting daily interviews and assessments, managing case plans, and collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to support AICs in their rehabilitation journey. The counselor will focus on reducing recidivism and aiding successful reintegration into society, while ensuring safety and accountability within the correctional facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in behavioral science, criminal justice, or related field with major coursework in behavioral science and two years of professional counseling experience.
  • Three years of experience in a social service, rehabilitative, or correctional program with primary responsibility for guiding individuals or groups.
  • Master's degree in behavioral science with one year of professional counseling experience.
  • Professional counseling experience must include one-on-one supportive counseling with full responsibility for case management.

  • Caseload management experience.

  • Current Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily interviews and assessments for AICs.
  • Perform risk/needs evaluations and file reviews.
  • Provide intensive and intermediate case management based on AICs' risk levels.
  • Identify appropriate interventions and manage AICs at the correct case management level.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to support AIC rehabilitation.
  • Document unusual incidents and maintain security protocols.
