About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Correctional Counselor II (Supervisor), the Correctional Counselor I (CC I) is responsible for a caseload of approximately 160 inmates and for assembling, organizing, analyzing and recording information necessary for classification and parole planning for inmates. The CC I is required to perform peace officer duties as required, and to replace and/or assist custodial staff during emergency situations, such as fights, attempted escapes, or major incidents, such as riots; to maintain order and supervise the conduct of inmates; to maintain the safety of persons and property; and to do other related work. Maintain casework, conduct pre-initial classification interviews, attend Initial and unit Sub-Classification hearings, prepare all classification Chronos, prepare all casework related documents such as: Departmental Review Board Cases, Temporary Community Releases, Release Program Study; issue and/or confiscate work privilege cards, interview and counsel inmates. Prepare Board reports and pre-release; respond to informal and first level inmate appeals regarding casework issues; maintain accuracy of manuals assigned and conduct file review. Participate in one to one, and group dialogue, with inmates assigned to his/her case load. Conduct regular open line interviews as well as resolution of unexpected inmate concerns. Conduct interviews after incidents to assist in determining cause. Serve as Staff Assistant for inmates when assigned, attend staff meetings as required; serve as Disciplinary Hearing Officer for Administrative Rule Violation Reports when assigned.
