The Correctional Counselor I (CCI) is responsible for managing a caseload of approximately 160 incarcerated individuals. Under the supervision of the Correctional Counselor II, the CCI identifies critical factors contributing to emotional and social maladjustment that have led to criminal behavior. The role involves evaluating these factors to understand the prospects for change in attitude and behavior, as well as the expected adjustment of individuals both within the institution and upon their release. CCIs are required to access and enter data into the Disability and Effective Communication system (DECS) and must work evening hours for classification purposes.
