About The Position

This position reports to a Correctional Programs Supervisor at a multi-custody male correctional facility and provides case management services to an assigned case load. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Performing regular periodic classification reviews, needs assessments, plans, job assignments, program referrals and regular scheduled one-on-one contact for the purposes of correctional and/or motivational counseling. 2. Providing transitional information, assisting with housing and recommendations for the classification upon offender review and assisting with onsite activities. 3. Communicating effectively with other staff, offenders, and the general public. 4. Working under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders, who can become physically violent and verbally abusive, being capable of defending oneself against attack and performing crisis interventions to include suicide prevention. 5. Preparing written reports which accurately reflect data reviewed by various sources, reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating various documents and behavior data gathered from interviews, written documentation, and personal observation. 6. This is a certified position and employees may be subject to assist in any certified capacity as needed. (Salary Range: $35,984 - $62,971)

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; OR High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Nice To Haves

  • Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.
