About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! This position is assigned to Pasquotank Correctional Institution located in Elizabeth City, NC within Pasquotank County. The responsibility of this position includes disseminating and interpreting rules, regulations, and orders from prison management. This position conducts frequent inspections of housing units and other buildings, grounds, and posts to ascertain that officers are alert, that discipline is maintained, and that assignments are being carried out effectively and supervise Correctional Lieutenant III’s. Implements disciplinary measures with inmates and employees on infractions of rules; investigates complaints of inmates and makes reports of such actions to higher level officials. Works to prevent or resolve disorders such as: assaults, riots, fires, and escapes. Prepares reports on inmates pertaining to their behavior, attitudes, and work records for use on the inmate classification committee. Organizes and conducts training programs for employees. Perform other duties as required. Employees may serve as the Officer-in-Charge.

Requirements

  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience as a Correctional Lieutenant, or 2 years of experience as a Correctional Lieutenant III; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
