About The Position

This position is located at Pasquotank Correctional Institution in Elizabeth City/Pasquotank County, NC. Work in this class involves participation as an active member of the behavioral health team and assisting in the implementation of an intensive behavior modification program for close-custody male inmates. Employees are fundamental liaisons with the treatment team regarding inmate programs and progress. Duties also include data entry, collection, and the making and reporting of clinical impressions of inmates during assessments or during daily activities on a unit. This position may assist in group or individual supportive counseling in cognitive behavioral intervention groups, such as substance abuse and anger management, in preparation for their transition to the regular population. This position may be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and inventorying supplies used for programming. Employees conduct initial screening interviews that focus on data gathering and identifying problem areas that require attention by the treatment team. An employee's supportive counseling role includes the use of crisis intervention techniques and referral to treatment staff as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology or other human services field from an appropriately accredited institution with several classes in psychology, and one year of experience in some area of behavioral health; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Candidates being considered for a position in Diagnostics require at least 2 years of experience administering and/or conducting psychological testing.
