About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! This position is located at Craven Correctional Institution, Vanceboro NC Reporting directly to the Correctional Warden IV, the Correctional Associate Warden of Operations is responsible for assisting the Warden in the total operation of the facility. Additionally, this position has direct management and supervisory responsibility for the operation of several critical functions to include the general day-to-day and the 24-hour operation of the facility.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of supervisory, administrative or consultative experience in CORRECTIONS or related work; -OR-
• High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience at or above the Correctional Lieutenant level; -OR-
• An equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

• Documented supervisory skills in a prison facility
• Documented knowledge of adult facility operations
• Documented knowledge of adult Prisons’ policy and procedures

Responsibilities

• Ensuring the safety and security of the housing of male offenders housed at a minimum custody correctional institution and ensuring the safety of the staff and general public.
• Working closely with supervisors to provide guidance and direction on prison policies and procedures.
• Directly involved with the hiring, disciplining, coaching, and training of employees.
• Providing direction and structure for the work of the Correctional Captains, Correctional Lieutenants, Correctional Sergeants, Correctional Officers, and support staff.
• During any extended period of absence of the Warden
