About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! This is an anticipated vacancy. This position is located at Craven Correctional Institution in Vanceboro, NC, Craven County. Craven Correctional Institution is a medium custody, male facility. The Associate Warden for Programs manages the programs section, which provides a large variety of programs services to the offender population, including case management, chaplaincy services, treatment and rehabilitation programs, volunteer programs, and transitional services. This position has dual supervision for the medical, dental and psychological services. The Associate Warden is responsible for establishing operating procedures and standards for all program services. This position is directly involved with the hiring, disciplining, coaching, and training of staff under his/her supervision. This position is responsible for providing an offender labor force for the entire prison. The Associate Warden participates as a member of the Executive Management Team for planning, development and management of the facility. This position may serve as acting Warden in the absence of the Warden. This position will report to the directly to the Warden.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services or criminal justice field and four years of experience in correctional programs management work; -OR- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
