About The Position

This position serves as the direct assistant to the Institution Warden and requires considerable knowledge of criminal justice or Ohio’s adult rehabilitation & correction system. • Acts for warden for assigned operations (i.e., administers and direct incarcerated population disciplinary process, directs training program activities, directs institution safety and health) • Supervises assigned staff and schedules work assignments • Serves as principal liaison designee for warden and coordinates public relations activities and researches and responds to inquiries and complaints from general public, outside agencies (e.g., Office of Attorney General) • Coordinates responses to and contact with regulatory agencies (e.g., environmental protection agency, OSHA, fire marshal) • Reviews and signs administrative documents on behalf of warden • Coordinates and/or chairs meetings and/or team task forces (e.g., problem solving) • Completes reports reflecting institutional activities • Writes correspondence • Assists warden and/or business manager in fiscal and budget planning according to departmental needs • Recommends policy and procedure changes to warden • Participates in developing and implementing policies and procedures for assigned areas • Serves as institution public information officer • Conducts interviews with incarcerated persons and makes appropriate decisions impacting status of individual incarcerated persons • Addresses/resolves issues/concerns brought to attention of warden’s office to appropriate staff or departmental section or outside agency • Serves as duty officer as assigned • Serves on committees and/or represents warden at meetings • Serves on interview panels • Speaks with public stakeholders • Consults with warden regarding sensitive issues • Serves as liaison between warden and staff or outside agencies • Completes performance evaluations • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 30 mos. exp. in Ohio's adult rehabilitation & correction system
  • 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in English grammar & composition or business communication
  • completion of undergraduate major core program in criminal justice or related field
  • 6 mos. exp. in Ohio's adult rehabilitation & correction system
  • 6 mos. exp. as Correction Warden Assistant 1, 63191
  • equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above
