About The Position

The Office of the Commandant (OOC) serves and supports departments within the Corps of Cadets that are critically engaged in all aspects of student development and the delivery of key services and support. OOC departments work to create environments that help students grow, develop, learn, and enhance their experience at Texas A&M by providing leadership opportunities, experiential education, and connections beyond the classroom. This position will be part of a centralized team that supports the active recruiting efforts of future cadets and their families to Texas A&M and the Corps of Cadets. The Instructional Design Manager, under direction, provides leadership and oversight of instructional design, curriculum development, and instructional delivery for leadership education programs primarily serving U.S. Department of Defense and Texas state military personnel. This position manages course design and instructional delivery for contracted leadership programs, supports faculty and instructors, conducts instructional methodology research and program assessment, and oversees instructional innovation across online, blended, and in-person learning environments. Salary: Commensurate based on selected candidates experience. Other: This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding, which is renewed through provisions of the grantor of the contract. Therefore, this position is contingent upon continuation of funding from these grants and/or contracts, as well as satisfactory job performance

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years of related experience, including two years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Knowledge of human resource theory.
  • Knowledge of student development literature and models.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate level degree in management, leadership or education.
  • Experience in leadership instructional or leadership development role.
  • Experience with US Department of Defense leadership education programs as a student or an instructor.
  • Social science assessments such as MBTI, Strong Vocational Interest, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Course Design and Development Management Serves as Course Manager for assigned leadership programs, including contracted U.S. Department of Defense and Texas state military leadership courses.
  • Oversees collaboration with instructors and subject matter experts (SMEs) to design, develop, and deliver curriculum, lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials.
  • Manages cross-curricular integration across multiple lines of effort (e.g., leadership, communication, doctrine, joint operations) to ensure instructional alignment and coherence.
  • Leads and assigns instructional design and curriculum development projects to designers and instructional staff.
  • Provides coaching and guidance to instructional design personnel and instructors to enhance instructional quality and consistency.
  • Oversees internal course design review processes and ensures instructional quality standards are met.
  • Approves instructional strategies, delivery methods, learning technologies, and assessment approaches.
  • Ensures course compliance with accessibility standards, copyright requirements, and contractual obligations.
  • Develops and maintains unified course formats to provide consistent and effective learning experiences across delivery modalities.
  • Training and Support for Faculty and Instructors Develops, reviews, and delivers training for faculty and instructors on instructional design, teaching methodologies, and educational technologies.
  • Supports instructor recruitment, selection, qualification, and onboarding in alignment with program requirements.
  • Provides instructional support during course delivery, including troubleshooting instructional issues and advising on teaching strategies.
  • Coordinates with technical and university support units to ensure faculty and instructor readiness.
  • Responds to instructional concerns raised by students or instructors and takes appropriate corrective action.
  • Administrative Oversight and Project Management Manages instructional development timelines, course delivery schedules, and instructor teaching assignments.
  • Oversees administrative processes related to course delivery, instructional resources, and learning management systems.
  • Monitors feedback from students and instructors regarding course effectiveness and instructional design processes.
  • Ensures documentation, records, and instructional materials meet institutional and contractual requirements.
  • Research, Assessment, and Evaluation Conducts research on instructional methodologies and evaluates curriculum effectiveness.
  • Oversees program assessment activities and contributes to continuous curriculum improvement.
  • Researches emerging instructional design innovations and evaluates their applicability to leadership education programs.
  • Coordinates testing and evaluation of instructional technologies and learning tools.
  • Disseminates instructional updates, best practices, and innovation-related information as appropriate.
