About The Position

The team partners across the company to enable a secure, resilient, and trusted environment that supports both safety and innovation. We operate in dynamic, high-visibility environments, including dense urban offices and major events where discretion, credibility, and sound judgment are essential. The Corporate Security team works closely with Real Estate & Workplace, Legal, Communications, HR, IT, and external partners to maintain a proactive and people-first security posture. The Corporate Security Manager, New York City leads day-to-day physical security operations for OpenAI’s New York offices and events. This role requires strong judgment, maturity, and collaboration to protect people, facilities, and operations in a complex, high-visibility urban environment. The ideal candidate combines operational execution with strategic partnership, capable of managing local guard operations, coordinating executive and event security, developing standard operating procedures, and fostering trust-based relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This role reports to the Corporate Security Global Head of Operations and will include travel in support of resilience initiatives, events, and other Corporate Security operations.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in corporate security, protective services, or comparable operational security roles, with a strong understanding of physical security in corporate environments.
  • Proven success managing security programs in dense, high-visibility metropolitan areas; New York City experience preferred.
  • Implementing and optimizing advanced security technologies, such as access control, surveillance, visitor management systems, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Proven skill in creating, revising, and executing SOPs to ensure consistent and efficient security practices, alongside training programs for both security personnel and broader teams.
  • A successful track record of evaluating, selecting and managing third-party security vendors and contracted services.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with internal teams and external agencies, forging strong, collaborative relationships; skilled at building trust and collaboration across teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead calmly under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and communicate with clarity and confidence in dynamic situations.
  • Familiarity with crisis management, event security planning; capable of applying structured judgment in ambiguous situations.
  • High integrity, discretion, and a people-first mindset that prioritizes safety, collaboration, and respect.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment, swiftly pivoting in response to emerging threats or organizational changes.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to regional and international offices to support various events and projects.

Responsibilities

  • Office Security : Lead and manage physical security operations for OpenAI’s New York City offices and internal events, overseeing policies, systems, and vendor partnerships; proactively assess and mitigate risks related to protests, activism, or other reputation-sensitive events; ensure reliable safeguards through effective access control, visitor management, and surveillance systems; provide calm, credible leadership with timely escalation to Corporate Security leadership when incidents arise.
  • Events: Partner with the Resilience Team to coordinate secure operations for internal, external, and offsite events, including occasional domestic and international travel; provide support to the Corporate Security Executive Protection Team on executive travel logistics as needed.
  • Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement: Establish and strengthen relationships with local law enforcement agencies, local emergency services, peer security organizations, and other external partners to stay current on emerging risks; partner with Real Estate & Workplace, Legal, HR, Communications, and IT on security planning, access control, and incident response.
  • Policy Development & Compliance: Contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), training programs, and compliance initiatives, ensuring all protocols meet high-quality standards and legal requirements.
