This Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Corporate Safety Director to join our team!

The Corporate Safety Director is a key leadership role responsible for designing, implementing, and sustaining an enterprise‑wide safety and health program that protects employees, supports operational execution, and manages company risk. This role establishes company‑level safety strategy, ensures regulatory compliance, and drives a practical safety culture across office, field, and project environments.

The position requires sound professional judgment in balancing employee safety, regulatory requirements, operational realities, and business risk, and serves as the company’s primary authority on safety policy, serious incident response, and regulatory interface.

You will serve as a key advisor to executive leadership and operational management on safety-related risk and performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety or related field combined with relevant work experience required
• 10+ years of industrial, construction, or related experience managing health and safety function in a fast-paced, complex environment
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
• Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions in complex, high-risk environments.
• Possess strong leadership skills, with exceptional proficiency in interpersonal communications including the ability to influence others
• Highly motivated and self-directed with a strong customer focus
• Willingness to champion changes and improvements with a bias for action
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects with multiple sub-tasks simultaneously
• Currently have or willing to obtain a 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification
• First Aid and CPR training completed
• Possess a valid driver’s license and have 24-hour access to reliable means of transportation
• Must be able to travel in-state and out of state overnight occasionally
• Eligible to obtain and maintain a company-issued credit card, including successfully passing a required credit check.
• Frequent reaching, grasping, and handling of items, and visually and aurally perceiving attributes of objects and materials on a regular basis without restrictions
• Ability to work outside in varying conditions, such as high heat, high humidity and extreme cold
• Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
• Occasional standing and walking for periods of four to eight hours

Responsibilities

• Act as a visible, credible safety leader who communicates clearly and decisively with employees, managers, and clients.
• Influence leadership teams to integrate safety considerations into business decisions.
• Promote a culture where safety expectations are clear, accountability is consistent, and progress is valued over perfection.
• Provide executive‑level reporting on safety performance, trends, and risks.
• Manage EHS budget and procurement requirement, prioritize by compliance versus best practice, maintain budget and close coordination with CFO
• Own and continuously improve the company’s Corporate Health & Safety Program, including manuals, SOPs, and standards applicable across all operations and geographies.
• Establish company-level safety objectives, metrics, and performance indicators aligned with business goals.
• Ensure safety programs are practical, scalable, and consistently applied across diverse projects and work environments.
• Lead periodic program reviews and updates to reflect regulatory changes, incident learnings, and operational evolution.
• Lead Bay West Safety Committee – creates agenda, holds quarterly meetings, and posts/distributes the minutes, track action items for completion
• Directly supervises a small safety team
• Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, state OSHA plans, DOT, MSHA (if applicable), and client‑specific requirements.
• Serve as the company’s primary interface with regulatory agencies during inspections, inquiries, and enforcement actions.
• Oversee OSHA recordkeeping, reporting, and required notifications including OSHA 300 Recordkeeping, Federal EM 385-1-1 (2017) Incident Reporting, and First Report of Injury
• Interpret regulations and standards and translate them into clear, company‑level requirements, avoiding unnecessary complexity while maintaining compliance.
• Establish and oversee systems for hazard identification, near‑miss reporting, and incident prevention.
• Lead or oversee investigations of serious incidents, injuries, and high‑risk events. studies possible causes, recommends remedial action, and reports them to Management
• Formulate lessons-learned bulletin for all employees to review, identify where controls need to be implemented to reduce or eliminate hazards and advise if a new program or practice is required and track incident reports to closure
• Ensure investigations identify company‑level and systemic root causes, not solely individual behaviors.
• Drive timely, effective corrective actions and verify sustained closure.
• Analyzes work environments and design programs to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, radiological, and biological agents or ergonomic factors that involve the impact of equipment design on a worker’s comfort or fatigue
• Define core safety training requirements for all employees and role‑specific training for field and supervisory personnel.
• Ensure training content, delivery, and records meet regulatory and client requirements.
• Oversee onboarding safety training, refresher training, and specialized certifications.
• Evaluate training effectiveness and adjust programs based on incident trends and operational feedback.
• Vets and approves subcontractor pre-qualification safety packets including continuously update third party contractor evaluation forms (ISNet World, PICs, Browz, Magellan, OMG)
• Provide strategic oversight and guidance to site safety staff, project managers, and supervisors.
• Conduct or direct audits, field visits, and safety assessments to evaluate program effectiveness.
• Support operations in planning high‑risk work, including development and review of site‑specific safety plans.
• Reviews and approves Site Specific Health and Safety Plans (SSHP’s), Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA’s), and Accident Prevention Plans (APPs), and Hazardous Evaluation Forms (HEFs)
• Reinforce stop‑work authority and ensure it is supported at all management levels.
• Establish and maintain safety committees, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms.
• Track leading and lagging indicators and use data to drive improvement.
• Ensure safety documentation, policies, and records are controlled and audit‑ready.
• Lead annual and as‑needed program reviews.
• Oversee the inspect and maintain adequate supply of equipment including respiratory inventory, SCBAs, air monitoring equipment, Drager tubes, Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry Rescue, Heat and Cold Stress supplies, First Aid, and MPCA instruments
• Oversees AED Medical Prescription/Public Access Defibrillator Program for both Saint Paul and Minneapolis offices
• Serve as collaborator with Human Resources for medical exam compliance, drug and alcohol testing, and other compliance issues
