About The Position

As a Corporate Safety Director, you will lead and oversee all aspects of safety, regulatory compliance and risk management for our transportation operations. This role ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations, promotes a strong safety culture, and works closely with operations, HR and leadership to reduce incidents, claims and liability while supporting efficient operations.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Transportation, Business or related field required
  • 8+ years of progressive safety leadership experience in transportation, logistics, or trucking preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and state transportation and safety regulations
  • Experience managing driver safety programs, audits, and compliance documentation
  • Proven ability to analyze safety data and implement corrective action plans
  • Strong leadership, communication, and training skills
  • Experience managing multi-location or fleet-wide safety programs

  • Ability to work cross-functionally with operations, HR, and executive leadership
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

Nice To Haves

  • Mult-state/regional experience strongly preferred with familiarity of operations across the Upper Midwest
  • Valid CDL Class A driver's license preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement corporate safety policies, procedures and training programs across all locations that reflect regional operational best practices
  • Act as senior safety advisor to executive leadership
  • Ensure company is in compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSA/DOT), OSHA and Department of Labor Safety Standards
  • Lead accident and safety incident investigations; determine root cause and implement corrective actions
  • Oversee post-incident responses across regional operations
  • Manage safety audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews; serve as primary point of contact for regulator agencies
  • Lead, mentor and develop regional safety team members
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, HR and others to embed safety across business processes
  • Partner with insurance carriers and claims administrators to manage risk and control costs
  • Design, implement and oversee safety training programs for drivers, supervisors and mechanics across the business making sure training meets regulatory requirements and enhance on the job safety performance
  • Establish safety KPIs, including accident rates, near misses, inspection scores and workers' compensation trends
  • Provide regular performance reporting and recommendations to senior leadership
  • Analyze companywide safety data to identify trends and implement targeted risk‑reduction strategies
  • Collaborate with Fleet Maintenance and Operations to ensure vehicle safety, inspection standards, and preventive maintenance compliance
  • Lead implementation and optimization of safety technologies such as telematics, onboard cameras, and collision‑avoidance systems
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry innovations to enhance safety performance
  • Monitor CSA scores, safety metrics, and trends; prepare reports for executive leadership
  • Ability to travel regionally required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
