About The Position

The Gund Company has an immediate opening at for a full-time Corporate Engineer – specializing in Material development and Chemical formulation supporting multiple facilities. Work Location: Corporate Headquarters - 9333 Dielman Industrial Drive, St. Louis, MO 63132 Alternate work locations: Amsterdam, NY, Waukesha, WI or Queretaro, Mexico TGC facilities. Job Summary The Corporate Engineer is a main technical resource for any chemical, mechanical, composite fabrication, and materials related issues. Responsible for the design, development, alteration or modification of chemical formulations, materials, and manufacturing processes. Evaluates and reports on new technologies, patents, or competitive items. This role will focus on Materials and Chemicals: Technical resource for material or chemical related issues. Optimize thermoset formulations and processes to produce products in TGC processes that exceed customer expectations. Trouble shooting material issues involving chemicals and/or process. Lead efforts to consolidate and standardize formulations and processes across the enterprise. Support Research and development to develop materials that will meet demanding customer requirements. Modify existing formulations to optimize performance. Recommend process improvements to ensure robust performance of product in the field. Develop robust BMC / SMC compounds for molding. Lead R&D efforts to develop products and/or materials.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Engineering (ChE, Materials) OR Chemistry degree with related experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in manufacturing engineering environment.
  • Working knowledge of thermoset chemical formulations.
  • Competency in chemical formulations used for composite processes (i.e., pultrusion, filament winding).
  • Background in developing BMC/ SMC compression molding.
  • Ability to modify formulation to optimize performance of material for customer requirements.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and perform statistical analyses.
  • Demonstrated experience writing technical reports.
  • Travel: 25%

Responsibilities

  • Execute on approved engineering projects.
  • Lead R&D projects for material development.
  • Lead effort to consolidate and standardize formulations throughout the enterprise while being UL compliant.
  • Support product compliance initiatives.
